RE: securing a 7.2 box



Well, I myself roll my own kernel, and name the file
    /boot/bzImage
which doesn't interfere with the existing rpm generated kernel, so
it doesn't matter.  I do like to have the RH kernel around in case
I need it, so that's why it's there.

Also, it's easy to get rid of a particular rpm file out of the one 
directory.  I actually don't upgrade everything.  I have the errata
that I want, and "mv" out that which I don't want before executing
   $ rpm -Fvh *.rpm

In any case, my understanding of up2date is that it would essentially
do the same thing I described.  Check your existing rpm's and upgrade
them.  There is probably a control mechanism to keep it from upgrading
what you don't want, but my method also has a control mechanism.
