I had apt installed and ran it. The first thing it did was complain
about having multiple versions of things installed that worked
hunky-dorey side-by-side. To make it happy, I uninstalled the old ones.
(It would only complain about one each time it was run, so I had to run
it several times to clean it all up.) I then tried to get it to install
something. It kept failing (I forget the specific error, but really it
was very non-specific). Then I gave up. A few days later, after a
reboot, I found a number of things that refused to work because I
uninstalled things they needed just to satisfy apt.
This was actually my second attempt, and was wildly successful in
comparison to the first.
I'm kinda slow and it sometimes takes me more than once to learn a
lesson. It's learned on this one. Unless it already comes integrated,
or it can accept what I have without whining about it, I'll pass.
I haven't tried urpmi yet. May be just what the doctor ordered.
