If you are talking about the grub splash page on my 7.2 box it is
defined in /boot/grub/grub.conf



splashimage=(hd0,4)/grub/splash.xpm.gz


I played around with this and never got an image in the format that it
wanted.  IIRC I was having difficulty saving an image with the right
color depth.

It's been a while and it was not a priority so I did not keep at it.

Please let me know if you figure out how to save an exisiting image in
the format grub wants.
