Database interface in Linux

Hello All,

I know that to access a database from a web application on windows we need
to setup an ODBC in the windows control panel, How to do that in Linux ?

For example if I have an oracle database on another server, and a JSP web
site, how can the site connect to the database ? I will install Oracle
client on the web server, but how the JSP will connect to this Oracle client
? do I need to add an ODBC ?
