RH8.0- KDE

A problem with KDE that drives me up the wall .
When going into Control Center > Look & Feel > Theme Manager and click 
on ADD
and it takes you to /home/user-directory , Why won't KDE allow you to 
view the 'files'
in the user-directory ? It only let you view 'directories' , I can get 
it to display hidden-files
only.
This problem happens everytime in KDE when you run a application and it 
display's the
/home/user-dirtectory.
This problem has no bearing on Konqueror , it works fine.
