I really have no idea. Are there funky characters in the password?
Could it be a keyboard mapping thing in that X is sending differenct
characters than the VC?
There is definietly something to be learned here I just don't know what
it is going to be.
What happens if you boot into single user mode and change the password
to root there and then try it?
