problem with kde

Hi
  I am facing typical problem. I have a compaq machine with Compaq 
Monitor 7500. This is p4 machine. When we login either root or user, The 
console font is  not behaving properly. It gives some space after shell 
prompt. This works fine in gnom. Unless and untill you set font for root 
or user, it does not behave properly.
  So default font  does not look proper. How to set default font for 
kde so that it behaves proper for all users without any settting for 
individulas.
