openoffice 1.0

hello:

when i upgraded from rh7.2 to rh8.0, openoffice did not get installed. so i am 
attempting load and use it from the rpms on the rh 8.0 distribution cd's.

it will not start and gives the following when i try to start from a terminal 
session:

[best jackfork best]$ oowriter
Starting OpenOffice.org ...
[best jackfork best]$

so i trace down the calls to various scripts, and in 
/usr/lib/openoffice/program i find that setup.bin is exec'd. when it is 
exec'd by setup, i get the message:

Aborted

and now have a core file...

i have attempted reinstalling the rpms for just openoffice, and attempted to 
reinstall everything (except rpmlib's) that openoffice depends on. no luck.

has anyone had similar trouble and have any suggestions???? i would be most 
appreciative of any assistance.
