Performance benchmarking...

Hi !
Whilst working on servlet/applet and perusing the javasoft list, I came
across an email from someone who did some performance benchmarking
running Java on Solaris , NT and Linux. I hope on similar hardware !
The email claimed that the combination Java / Linux is the slowest.
The email went on to suggest that Sun is not interested in supporting
Linux because it is competition to Solaris .
I wonder whether anyone out there has done any similar benchmarking and
would like to share their insight ?
One thing RedHat Linux users should realize :
(1) the standard workstation installation is "bloat ware", and the
server installation seems to come with a lot of packages you might not
need  :  "rpm -qa" will show you what  you have installed  ;
(2) ensure the kernel is optimized for your chip architecture . RedHat
out-of-the-box offers either Intel or AMD .
