S.O.S. RE: weird login problem

Hey,

 I can login from X but I cannot login from console prompt!!!
This is a very weird problem. I need to fix this problem ASAP  - somebody help please!

Hello,

I've installed a Redhat 7.3 Kernel 2.4.18-3 and everything is fine!
I can login from X Window but I cannot login in console mode - neither
by getting a terminal by Ctrl+Alt+F1-6, nor with booting it up in text
terminal mode!!!
I can even get a Konsole or ssh to the system and login successfully
but if I try text mode login, after entering root or any user name and
password it just displays a "Login Incorrect" message and the login prompt again!!!
