Talking to myself here...
I guess we do need to be aware that there could be a max mem which one
process can use or claim for itself - right ?
And if a process tries to claim a few gigabytes, well then , we will see
about that , right ?
While I am on the subject : why do I need to split the available mem
50:50 between Oracle and Linux. I didn't do that, I gave Oracle something
like 70% through SHMMAX and I don't see any complaints ! Not quite true :
I put that in /etc/profile and everytime I log in as a normal user it
complaints about no privileges to alter SHMMAX, I guess rc.local or some
place like that on boot would be more reasonable...
Actually I do have a lot of complaints : like how come I need to copy
$ORACLE_HOME/jdbc/lib/class12.jar to my tomcat webapps dir for the servlet
to access Oracle because no amount of jiggery-pokery with Tomcat's
CLASSPATH will make the servlet log to Oracle otherwise.
Anyway, its late. Nite all.
