Thanks to S Cowles and others for advice on getting a firewire drive
operational with Linux.
It's a bit above my head but I can work towards it if necessary.
Stated on the source forge website
http://linux1394.sourceforge.net/start_req.html:
.If you do not feel confident about building your own kernel, then we
suggest that you wait until your distribution provides a kernel ready for
1394.
How can I tell if my kernel is already ready for 1394? I installed RH7.3,
then updated the kernel using RH's update feature, to get 7.3 to work on my
Dell Lattitude Laptop's Nvidia hardware, so I have a pretty new version
(sorry I can't check now, doing this from Windows).
By the way, for the other gentleman asking about installing a firewire
drive, this is a great intro:
http://linux1394.sourceforge.net/index.html. Also, I asked this question
about three days before you and there are some good replies so check the
digests for the last few days.
Thanks for any advice,
Jim
