Probaly should be in a man or info page somewhere but I don't think that
init is the one it should be in since it does say that on Sys V systme
it works closely with the scripts in init.d:
CONFORMING TO
Init is compatible with the System V init. It works
closely together with the scripts in the directories
/etc/init.d and /etc/rc{runlevel}.d. If your system uses
this convention, there should be a README file in the
directory /etc/init.d explaining how these scripts work.
Perhaps the README should be included in the distro in /etc/init.d .
Seems like there is a boot process howto That I read way the *$^%* back
in my begining linux days that explained at least how rc gets called.
since then I have alwys gone straight to /etc/init.d to look ath the
scripts whenever I had a question about what was happening. This is how
I learned that the K?? and S?? files needed to be capitalized s and k
after a very difficult night trying to get a home grown script working.
Since this is such a integral issue and lots of people have not even a
cursory understanding of how it works, the README refered to would be a
good place to put the info or at least a pointer to where to look.
Why don't you submit an enhancement request if it really pisses you off.
