the tool is called fsck, and there are various modes for various filesystems :

/sbin/fsck /sbin/fsck.msdos /sbin/fsck.vfat /sbin/fsck.ext2 /sbin/fsck.ext3 
/sbin/fsck.reiserfs /sbin/fsck.minix
