According to the box, 32MB for text mode and 64MB for graphical. 96MB is
recomended for graphical.
Agreed.
I recently purchased an older IBM Thinkpad (PII/266) for
remote connections to my servers and general RH "sandboxing". It came
with 64 MB of RAM on it (32 on board, and a 32 MB chip). The RH 7.2
"Professional" installed without incident. Gnome and KDE worked just
fine with the 64 Megs.
What was interesting is the test that I did, afterwards ...
I had installed almost the entire distro. Everything in the
"Professional" install, except a few developer tools -- nearly 2 GB
worth of files/programs!
Then I did my test:
find / -name sndconfig (as "root")
The laptop took 4 minutes and 23 seconds to find the 3
"sndconfig" files in the 2 GB of files on the laptop (with 64 MB of
RAM). I then added a 128 MB chip to the unit, and performed the same
test, with the same command. Result: 9 seconds!
Conclusion: Buy More RAM!! ;-)
