Given that MySQL is still unable to do things such as functions,
triggers and unions (unless you get the beta of MySQL 4 which I wouldn't
recommend) I would ask you to instead get Postgres, while it does
triggers on the whole table well its no oracle, it allows you to use
functions and pg/plsql which is a relief from MySQL.
Nonetheless if you can spring about CDN$ 2600 or so for a 5 user license
then you are better off with that ! if you can get the whole processor
license then all the better ! Otherwise Postgres it would be the better
solution. Get the RH rpms from http://www.postgres.org, there are the
latest stable ones there, combined with the windows based database
management tool PGAcess you are set. Oracle says that its certified for
the RedHat Advanced Server but I think there is a big probability that
you can run it on RedHat 7.3 and 8.0 with tweaks in the /proc/kernel
(relevent) spots.
Cheers,
Aly.
