Try either just "www" or "www.mydomain.com."
The problem is that if you're going to use a fully qualified domain name
in your CNAME reference, you need to put a "." at the end of it.
Otherwise, BIND thinks you're trying to CNAME it to
"www.mydomain.com.mydomain.com" which, I'm gathering, does not exist in
your zone file.
