gnome locks up system on Redhat 8.0

Hello,

Whenever I try to start GNOME on Redhat 8.0 it totally
freezes my system. I can only see the splash screen. No icons
appear to indicate that anything is loading. I can use neither
the keyboard, nor the mouse. Only a cold reset will solve the
problem.

The system works just fine with KDE.

Any ideas where to look for the source of the problem ?
