Install Hang on Clevo Laptop

I tried the Red Hat install list, but no takers, so I'll try here.

Having gotten tired of paying the Microsoft tax everytime I buy a new
machine, I gambled this time on a White Box laptop (Clevo D400S), but am
already regretting it.

I first tried to install RH9, but the system hangs up after the first
install screen. I've tried all the install options, such as "text",
"lowres", "noprobe", and "skipddc", but with no change.

When I try with RH8, I can get to the next screen, but it hangs up on
"Initializing PC Card devices..."  Again, "noprobe" has no effect.

Just for the heck of it, I downloaded the Mandrake 9.1 ISO, and that hangs
up on "cannot create RamDrive." Not that I really wanted Mandrake.

I tried the Linux laptop page, but they have nothing on a Clevo D400. The
computer is usable, since Win2000 installed without problems. Any
suggestions?
