I have tried the fonts setting, but evidently am not using the correct one.

Open Webmail (openwebmail.org) is a perl based email reader (with a built in
calendar and terminal) that one installs on their server. They can then use it
to read email using any browser. One starts open webmail, logs in, and then
reads the email on the server. Forwards and fetchmail can be used to get mail
from other servers. Folders, filters, etc. are built in.
