Re: Mozilla 1.3 monospaced fonts

The best way to fix this would be to have openwebmail use a more general font specification:

td.msgbody {font-family: monospace; font-size: 10pt;}

I can change this in the source code and change it. Problem is, it will change back everytime openwebmail is updated.

Maybe you should file a bug report with the developers. Specifying fonts by name is probably not the best way to go in an app like this, where dependable rendering of content is more important than fine details of style. At a minimum, the alternatives for Courier New should be fixed, not proportional.

You may be able to fix the problem on the client side by installing, and making sure Mozilla can find the Courier New font.

OK. I have been to google, sourgefort ?, a bunch of pages, mozilla, and so on. One would think it would be an easy task to find something as old as Courier New, get it and install it. Did not have any luck finding it.

Look for TrueType fonts. If you have a recent Red Hat release, it should have shipped with a small set of TrueType fonts. MS used to make these available for download until about a year or so ago. There's also an RPM called webfonts that has some fonts that you'll want. Copying the TTF files from your Winbox violates the license.

There are HOWTOs that tell how to install TrueType fonts on your Linux box. Look for the Deuglification HOWTO as a place to start. There may also be some info in Red Hat's Customization Guide for your release.
