cannot allocate colormap

Hi all,

I have installed iraf on redhat 8.0. however, when i run ximtool
command, a
display tool for iraf,
i get a 'cannot allocate colormap entry for "gray91"' warning.
I have a feeling it is because iraf runs with 8-bit pseudocolor and
although i have changed the monitor settings to 256 on my machine
i still think thats where the problem lies. Can anyone help please??

thanx
