I'm using gaim 0.60 on redhat 7.3 (kde) and redhat 9 (gnome+metacity).
I loaded the notifications plugin, and one of the options for
notification is by "setting the urgent hint" in the window manager.
However, I notice from metacity's source code that it doesn't yet seem
to support the urgent hint, and neither does kde. Does anyone know
which window managers correctly support the "urgent" hint, and can
they, for example, flash the minimised icon in the task bar to inform
me of a waiting message, like the messengers do under windows?
I have tried different notification methods, but each one is annoying,
or not useful enough. Sounds get irritating after a while, and
changing the window's title, while quiet and unobtrusive, isn't enough
to catch my attention. What is need is an explicit, but unobtrusive
notification. On M$ windows, the flashing icon in the taskbar is
perfect, but I just cannot find this kind of functionality in any of
the WM's I've seen so far.
