Kernel compilation issues.

Now, the 2.4.18-19.8.0 kernel is running great on my laptop.
However, I want to add the ntfs read-only module to access my XP
partition's data.  I copy the /boot/config-2.4.18-19.8.0 file to
/usr/src/linux-2.4/.config
I do "make clean dep modules modules_install install"
It fails in an abi section.
I do make dep, runs fine
make modules, runs for a while, but fails at the same abi portion.

Also, how difficult (and how) is it to add swsusp support to the redhat
kernel?
