1. Does the command "lsmod" show the 3c59x module already installed?
2. If it isn't shown, have you tried "modprobe 3c59x" to try loading it?
3. Does /var/log/messages or /var/log/dmesg (or just the command "dmesg"
show any errors associated with the card?
4. Does /proc/interrupts show the board? If this one fails, you'll need
to check and make sure the board is seated. It could also indicate the
board is bad. If the machine can't see it, there's nothing that will
make in work.
With versions up to 7.2 I've been able to shut down, remove the board,
reboot, remove configuration, shut down, insert the board, reboot and
configure networking with some success.
With 7.2, 7.3, the 8.0 betas and 8.0 I've had luck running kudzu
manually and configuring things. Unfortunately, this only worked when I
had it shut off during boot and had new hardware. When it was already
running at boot time, it wouldn't succeed at finding new hardware. I
doubt this case fits yours, but if it does, you can try that as well.
