You can add directly your fonts dir to RedHat by open file '/etc/fonts/fonts.conf" add a new node "dir" below "fontconfig" node:

Here is some lines of "/etc/fonts/fonts.conf":
<!-- Font directory list configured
   <dir>...</dir>
   <dir>...</dir>
   <!--- Assume your fonts dir is '/opt/fonts' -->
   <dir>/opt/fonts</dir>

Now, you can use "Kwrite", KEdit,... to check where your fonts applied or not.
