changing default locale

Hello all, 

I just want to change my default LANG environment environment from
pt_BR.UTF-8 to just pt_BR. I've tried changing /etc/sysconfig/i18n and
it worked for the text mode terminals, but it didn't work out on X.

Can anyone help me?
