add user with point

Hi,


I try add user with point but i receive this msg:

#adduser augusto.flavio
adduser: invalid user name 'augusto.flavio'

I try too use quotations marks in login but nothing.

#adduser 'augusto.flavio'
adduser: invalid user name 'augusto.flavio'


How i add users with point ?
