You enable the configuration of Organization Units by using
LDAP, which existed before Microsoft Active Directory Services. (AD is
basically, just a Microsoft clone of LDAP.)

Samba is designed to be able to utilize a variety of
authentication modes, one of which is NIS, another is PAM an yet another
is LDAP. Each on has its strengths and weaknesses, the good thing is
that you have a choice.

I believe that Samba 3.x is supposed to have better Domain
Controller support. It is nowhere near ready for prime time. So, I
haven't been following its development. I thought I read, or heard,
something about being able to join or better emulate a Microsoft Windows
Active Directory Domain.

We will never be testing or implementing such a thing here as we
have determined that the costs of Microsoft Servers and their Client
Access Licenses are to costly now and in the future. I just know the AD
concepts that I read about in my studies.
