Cannot download any files...?

Hello,

I've been working with RH since 5.1, but I'm still a
newbie, mostly because I run into one seemingly random
problem with Linux, give up and begrudgingly slink
back to Windows.  This time, though, I'm determined to
make it work.

I have a fresh installation of RH 8 (2.4.18) that
cannot download any files.  Any transactions over HTTP
or FTP that are anything bigger than a webpage or
graphic will stall (basically, if I download any file
from a website in Mozilla, or download anything from
gFTP, my transfer will almost always stall).  The
attempt to grab any of the same files from Windows
always succeeds.  I'm running a DSL connection through
a router.  The Windows box is connected through an
Apple wireless router hooked up to the Linksys DSL
router (a Mac running OS X.2.5 is also connected
wirelessly); the RedHat box is hardwired into the
Linksys router.  Local IPs have all been statically
assigned. Any idea what could be causing this?
