2.4.18-27.7.xbigmem unexplained lockups

(Hardware: Dell PE 1650 with 3/Di SCSI RAID card.)

Ever since going from 2.4.18-18.7.xbigmem to 2.4.18-27.7.xbigmem, I've been having unexplained lockups.  It seems the server will respond to pings, for example, but everything else, including the console is pretty much useless.

Anyone else with experience with these particular kernels?  The server also started experiencing (planned) higher usage since starting to lock up with the newer kernel, but I did see some lockups on a low-traffic test server after about 2 weeks, so the high usage thing doesn't seem to be the real issue.

I've just downgraded back to 2.4.18-18.7.xbigmem.
