Re: chown -R wierd under RH9



Goodness, that is a scary result...

	I would have to recommend against using a wildcard character all by
itself when running such a command. It is likely that using that
wildcard all alone smacked your system.

	It would have been more correct to do the following...

	chmod -R root:service tools

	or even...

	chmod -R root:service to* 

	While 'sitting' in a directory right above the 'tools' directory. If,
in your case, the directory 'tools' was on a '/' location of your
system, then that is why everything was reset to being 'owned' by
'service'.

	Wish you luck in getting it back up into working order.
