The Intel versions downloadable from Red Hat's ftp
site will not work, obviously because it's an Alpha
processor box.
The last time I checked (via google) there was a site
providing ISO images for Red Hat Linux for Alpha,
Sparc, etc and the different versions, but from memory
the Red Hat version they had on-line was v6.0
I've previously done a Linux install on an Alpha, and
I am happy to say it works very well although I
re-installed Tru64 Unix as Linux on the Intel
platforms was cheaper and faster.
One of the major differences between a Linux install
on an Intel and Alpha is that with the Alpha you need
a special "boot" partition (FAT partition) to boot the
environment. The rest is pretty much the same.
Googling will get you a host of resources and sites to
look all this information up on.
Michael.
