Thanks for the pointer Ed, Ive looks at the sys admin manual
http://www.redhat.com/docs/manuals/enterprise/RHEL-3-Manual/pdf/rhel-sag-en.pdf
but it dosnt seem to explain how to change from grub to lilo as that is
what Im more comfortable with. Its there an initab type of setting to
say -use lilo rather than grub. There is nothing obvious , that I can
see. That doc seems to refer to new install vis kick start
which doc should I read?
http://www.redhat.com/docs/manuals/enterprise/
thanks
Bob

Hi
Ive built a new kernel and made changes to /etc/lilo.conf.aconada
From my past experience I had to run lilo to test the config and make
an entry for the changes to the conf file.
Ive added /boot/vmlinux-new-kernel-version
labile=linux_2.6
When I boot up Grub dosnt see tehnew entry!
Ive done find / -name ''lilo''
and no executable is found. Typically this is in /sbin
grub is not the same as lilo. Please check out the Sysadmin guides at
Red Hat's web site for a detailed discussion on the various boot loaders
work and how to configure them.
When making changes to grub's boot loader config, you do not edit
/etc/lilo.conf.anaconda - you edit /etc/grub.conf
