I had to

ln -s /dev/scd0 /dev/cdrom
ln -s /dev/scd1 /dev/cdrom1

to get my CD-R and CD-RW back with 2.6.0-test1. Somehow the links are removed with the test kernel. Weird. Not sure if it is scsi related.
