i was going to mention that, in fact, i *know* this has been
bugzilla'ed (i may even have submitted it myself or at least
added a comment to that report), but when i went looking for a
bug number to pass on, i could find no mention of it.

i'll go back and look again, because i know there's been a
discussion of exactly this problem before.  but bugilla
comes up empty.
