$ rpm -qf /lib/modules/2.6.23.1-26.fc8/source/include/linux/version.h
kernel-devel-2.6.23.1-26.fc8

It looks like that you do not have a required 'kernel-devel'
package installed.  If it appears that you did install
'kernel-devel' then run checks 'rpm -V kernel-devel' and
'rpm -V kernel'.  It sounds like you are missing some files.
