I found something about somebody requiring mesa 6.5.3 or up (fc7 is at 6.5.2)... so I got the newly released 7.x mesa drivers and now it works!

I can run the 1080p mp4 Pirates of the Carribean trailer at about 30% cpu time per core... 

Now the next steps are harder... 

* Can I get sound via hdmi as well? 
* How to calibrate the colours / brightness / contrast...
