We have a system mechanism for this in the alternatives system. Any
chance of extending that to provide a uniform user-level way of
specifying alternatives? Maybe a GUI would be in order to move the
concept out to userland, but this seems like something that is best done
by the OS, rather than reimplemented N-times over for each windowmanager
and/or desktop. (This is really sort of an RFE, I'd gladly bugzilla it
and work on some coding id there a sense that people think it is a
reasonable approach)
