OK, here's a suggestion.
Try netplug, from http://www.red-bean.com/~bos/ - I have RPM packages
available that ought to work on Red Hat 8 through FC1.
I wrote it, and it works well for me on FC1 on my Dell and IBM laptops.
It doesn't depend on any external oddities such as libdaemon, and it
uses the approved kernel interfaces for determining what's going on with
network interfaces.
I'm interested in seeing this integrated into FC2, and I'll be happy to
help with problem reports or packaging issues.
So my suggestion is that people (a) try it, and (b) report any problems
to me, which I will (c) work with users to fix ASAP.
