As they are stored compressed, it is much less:

| $ rpm -qpC --nodigest --nosignature *.rpm |LANG=C  wc

| $ rpm -qpC --nodigest --nosignature *.rpm | gzip -9 - | LANG=C  wc 
|   12338   67545 3136942

| $ rpm -qpC --nodigest --nosignature *.rpm | bzip2 -9 - | LANG=C  wc 
|    6339   37933 1813872

(FC3 binaries rpms).


All this discussion because of 2-3 MB additional space?
