  This is complete bunk.  If that were true then a lot Free Software
wouldn't exist.
  I think this discussion on this list should end.  I'll see you from
the opposite side of the aisle as those of us who care about the future
of software fight hard to abolish software patents (and prevent them in
Europe).  That's the goal, though we may never reach it, maybe we'll
reach what you think is the ideal, but it's most likely the goal of at
least GPL software authors and advocates.
