maxtor external usb disk

Hi!

I just installed Fedora core 1 and by now, I already installed Firebird 
and Thunderbird (0.4 is out) and I have flash installed and running in 
Firebird... (for a newbie like me that's a lot of things), But I can't 
find a way to have my external maxtor personal storage 5000dv to work, 
with suse 9 it just appeared mounted when I logged one... I try to 
google a little but nothing :-(

Can you help get this one work...
