Bill I should warn you that I am no Linux expert.  What I have been able
to do is 

Bill, first let me inform you that I'm no linux expert.  I have tried
booting with 'nogui' and it will go out of spec as well.  All I've been
able to do is boot using the 'single' option.  Once I get to the text
prompt I tried typing in redhat-config-xfree86 to see if I could change
some settings but I only got an error message.  Any further help would
be greatly appreciated.
