Canon Digital Photography and RAW

Are there any open source projects working on the ability to import
Canon's RAW formats to TIFF for use in Linux? IE a GIMP plugin or
something?

I know you can shoot a digital SLR in jpeg and mount the CF card - but
what about RAW? There are 3rd party (non Canon) utilities so I'm
guessing Canon makes some information available - but I don't seem to be
finding any OSS solutions.
