So, does your new splash image appear properly?

Your /boot partition is /dev/hda3 and / is /dev/hda5?

Whe  you're in grub, do all of the following commands return (hd0,2)?

find /grub/stage1
find /grub/stage2
find /grub/menu.lst

Does the command

configfile /grub/menu.lst

bring up your menu?

Curious. Your menu says "Red Hat Linux 9.0" but you appear to be booting a 
rather old Red Hat 8.0 kernel...
