acer modem 56 surf usb

hi everyone,

i just got a usb modem, acer modem 56 surf usb, and can't get it run on my
box. can anyone help on how to i shall manage it? i am on linux since few
years but have never done nothing re the kernel so if it is absolutely
needed to do something on the kernel i would appreciate if you could direct
me to a site where i can find more help or assistance.
