No, Radeon 9500 or later cards have hardware accelerated 3D 
support only with the binary-only driver from ATI (if you can 
make it work).

AFAIK, the ATI drivers don't work at all with X.org 6.8, but I 
haven't tried them since the FC3-test releases.
