Why does it work in Ubuntu?  Does Ubuntu somehow work
around a Skype bug while fc6 does not?

I'm having this problem with 1.3.0.53.  I'm not using skype_dsp_hijacker
unless that's part of the default fc6 distro or skype 1.3.0.53.
