The xorg drivers stick me with a 640x480 on my Radeon X700, regardless of monitor settings. Try the option: Option "DDCMode" "On" In the device section in /etc/X11/xorg.conf, and it will probably fix it.
Anyway, I was stil wondering: is this a well-known bug or feature? Should we get it documented somewhere? I have no experience modifying the wiki site, but I wonder whether it should go there: in the FAQ perhaps?
